Abstract: Despite all the talk and all the hype solar had a poor showing in 2007.
The solar industry is not doing well (with the rest of the economy.) But even prior to the recession the EIA (Energy Information Administration) reported a 27% decrease in solar sales for 2007. Obviously the current rebates are ineffective.
Manufacturing shipped 15.2 million square feet, but considering that 500 square feet is needed for the energy needs of one home, that amounts to a little over 30,000 homes. With 100 million homes in America it is clear that the job will never get done this way.Government needs to invest heavily in the solar industry. With billions of dollars going to banks which produced no jobs and the auto industry's which last year lost billions of dollars it is time that the government changed its policies.
